Through its triple purposes – to promote the diffusion of knowledge, illustrate teachings and better serve scientific research – and using the different tools at its disposal, the Aquarium-Museum of Liège wants to make the diversity of the Animal and Aquatic worlds better known to its visitors and make the results of scientific research available to all.
The Aquarium-Museum is therefore a centre of excellence for animal biodiversity, which promotes, studies, conserves… a natural heritage. It’s also a touristic and cultural enterprise which captures the interest of 90 000 visitors each year. Since December 2009 the Aquarium-Museum has been labelled a “Category A Museum” by the ministry of Culture, Audiovisual, Health and Equal Opportunities of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, and recognised as “… the French Community of Belgium’s flagship institution in the area of Natural Sciences museology.”
