Mammals’ Room

Skeleton of a fin whale

This room is entirely dedicated to Mammals and was created when the building was enlarged in the 1950s. Within and outside of the display cases can be found 72 complete reconstituted and silhouetted skeletons, complementing the numerous stuffed specimens. Wandering between cases and skeletons of hippopotamus, rhinoceros, elephant, deer, dromedary… the visitor will end up in front of the 18m long skeleton of a fin whale.

A series of low cases separate the Mammal Room from that of the other vertebrates (Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds). Their content is dedicated to the illustration and study of comparative and functional anatomy.
